Groundwater and surface water can both be used for drinking and daily use by human, and is considered a resource for economic development and use. In addition, the aquifer, or the saturated zone storing large amounts of groundwater, supports surface pressure. Thus, the most prominent problem of over-extraction of groundwater is land subsidence.
